Lighting + Features

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 21, 2008, 4:53 PM
"To the complaint, 'There are no people in these photographs,' I respond, 'There are always two people: the photographer and the viewer." - Ansel Adams

This will be a brief journal mainly just to let you all know that I am still alive and still shooting! Its been a very busy few months which has afforded me very little time to get out and take the kind of photos that you all have come to expect from me. Firstly, I'd just like to thank all of you who have supported my latest couple of images, and particularly my latest HDRi 'Silhouettics' ([link]). I am very appreciative for all the :+fav:'s and comments that are sitting un-answered in my inbox. Apologies for that.

Secondly, I've noticed a lot of excellent photography lately which all display an underlying use of excellent natural light and atmospheric effects which I'd like to briefly discuss. Being a nature and landscape photographer for the most part, the use of natural light is something of great importance and I can't emphasise this enough.

When you think about all the fantastic landscapes, waterscapes etc. that you see on deviantArt or anywhere else, they all tend to be a combination of subject, framing and lighting: all tracing back to the skill of the photographer in visualizing the image. Whilst you can't always get the lighting you want, it is important to consider the difference it makes in a good image and a great image!

Anyway enough of my endless ranting... here are some 'lighting' themed features:
